The Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification is the premier certification for occupational health and safety professionals around the world.

Through education and experience, an Industrial Hygienist has the ability to recognize health hazards, test the environment for those hazards, determine if there is a risk to human health in a particular situation, and recommend controls or means of protection from the recognized health hazard, and assist in developing worker protection plans, perform audits, and educate and train management and workers.

A Certified Industrial Hygienist is one who has a certain level of education (a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering, or greater), a minimum of four years of experience as a full time practitioner in industrial hygiene, formal education in industrial hygiene subjects, and has passed a very rigorous national exam.

●  Complete 60 semester course hours of science, math, engineering, or science-based technology (15 hours at the junior, senior, or graduate level) from a bachelor’s or higher-degree program from an appropriately-accredited college or university.

●  Complete 180 academic hours or 240 continuing education contact hours of industrial hygiene courses with at least half of those hours in the Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene/OEHS, Toxicology, Measurements, and Controls.

●  Complete at least two contact hours of ethics coursework.

●  Be in active practice within 12 months of the application.

●  Be supported by a minimum of two professional references who can document 48 months (four years) of your industrial hygiene work at the professional level:

         √  One or more references from work supervisors

         √  One reference from a CIH who is familiar with your industrial hygiene/OEHS work (alternatives are available)

●  Agree to adhere to the BGC Code of Ethics and to be governed by the BGC Ethics Case Procedures.

A certified safety professional (CSP) is a certification obtained by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) in the United States of America.​

CSPs are qualified persons that are competent and trained to detect and appraise hazardous materials, procedures and activities of workers, materials and work environments. They are highly educated, trained and experienced in the field of safety.

Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) are persons who perform at least 50% of professional level safety duties, including making worksite assessments to determine risks, assessing potential hazards and controls, evaluating risks and hazard control measures, investigating incidents, maintaining and evaluating incident and loss records, and preparing emergency response plans.

●  Will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree

●  Will have four (4) years of safety experience where safety is at least 50%, preventative, professional level with breadth and depth of safety duties

●  Will have a BCSP Qualified Credential （List common, choose one）:

           √  Associate Safety Professional (ASP)

           √  Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH®)

           √  Certified Safety Engineer (CSE)

           √  NEBOSH National or International Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals

●  Must pass the CSP examination

●  Maintenance of certification
